Antioxidant
Effect
The ethyl ester of ferulic acid. An antioxidant ingredient with enhanced oil solubility, used to prevent oxidation of the formulation and to support suppression of oxidation from photodamage.
Concentration
Cosmetic loading is roughly on the order of 0.1-1% (conditional, formulation-dependent).
Effect
The ethyl ester of ferulic acid. An antioxidant ingredient with enhanced oil solubility, used to prevent oxidation of the formulation and to support suppression of oxidation from photodamage.
Mechanism
Its ferulic-acid skeleton scavenges radicals and suppresses the chain of lipid peroxidation. Esterification is reported to confer oil-phase stability.
Typical concentration
Cosmetic loading is roughly on the order of 0.1-1% (conditional, formulation-dependent).
Onset
Formulation stabilization is immediate; skin condition is around several weeks as a guide.
Cautions
May discolor with light and oxidation. Rarely sensitizing.
