Mechanism

Composed mainly of long-chain fatty acid esters and hydrocarbons, it forms an occlusive film that suppresses TEWL. It is also a structural material for emulsification and thickening.

Typical concentration

Loading-dependent (roughly 1–15% in formulations).

Onset

Occlusive effect is immediate upon application.

Cautions

Use caution if allergic to bee products.
