Effect
Suppresses the action of tyrosinase involved in melanin production, curbing melanin production to help prevent dark spots and freckles.
Concentration
A common loading guide is about 1-2% (varies with formulation pH and stability).
Effect
Suppresses the action of tyrosinase involved in melanin production, curbing melanin production to help prevent dark spots and freckles.
Mechanism
A type of hydroquinone glycoside that competitively inhibits tyrosinase. The alpha-glycoside is said to have higher inhibitory activity than the beta form (arbutin).
Typical concentration
A common loading guide is about 1-2% (varies with formulation pH and stability).
Onset
Usually gradual over several weeks to several months of continued use. Immediate effect is hard to expect.
Cautions
Under unstable conditions such as high temperature, low pH, or long-term storage, it may decompose and release hydroquinone, so formulation stability must be managed.
